Farming With Trees

Our Services

Sylvan specialises in combining traditional and innovative methods of farming, into a coherent landscape-scale design that is economically and biologically diverse. Agroforestry is the integration of trees into an existing arable or pastoral system, providing an additional fruit, nut, timber, fuel and fodder crop, that is designed to improve soil health, increase profitability and business resilience through diversification. We offer a site-specific approach, tailored to the clients objectives.

Consultancy and Project Design

We can offer guidance on all aspects of agroforestry, from one-off advice to project design and farm diversification. Our team offer expertise in Geographical Information Systems mapping, site surveys, planting design, keyline design and management planning, in addition to the services listed below.

Agroforestry Integration

Our approach is based on permaculture principles and therefore offers a site-specific approach to integrating trees into your farm system. This can be silvoarable, which combines trees and arable or horticulture crops, or silvopasture, which incorporates grazing livestock amongst trees. We offer designs for forest gardens, alley cropping systems, grazed orchards, productive hedges and edible shelterbelts.

Farm Management

Alongside design and consultancy, our team can implement your project, such as planting, aftercare, hedgelaying, coppicing, harvesting, pond creation and restoration, water drainage and storage, keyline design, road and path infrastructure and long-term maintenance.

meadow management

Our team have expertise in grassland management, from creating and restoring wildflower rich hay meadows, to planned mob grazing systems. We offer botanical and Phase 1 Habitat Surveys, planned grazing design and sward assessment.
